A Sneak Peek at the WSOP Toronto 2025, But the Online Qualifiers Disappeared!
Online Satellite Events for WSOP Toronto 2025 Removed from GGPoker Ontario After Two Days of Operation
The WSOP Toronto online qualifiers made their debut on the GGPoker Ontario platform, only to vanish after a brief stint.
When our team reached out for comment, GGPoker did not disclose the reasons behind the abrupt pull, but did assure that the online qualifiers would resurface "soon."
The WSOP Circuit Toronto, set for April 10 to 22, is staying put at the Great Canadian Casino Resort. GGPoker will be the official sponsor of the poker room at the venue.
This year's schedule boasts eleven ring events, three more than the 2024 edition. Organizers predict a substantial prize pool, surpassing C$6.5 million. The Main Event and High Roller are anticipated to generate over C$3 million and C$1.1 million respectively.
The Main Event maintains its C$2,000 buy-in, offering three starting flights starting from April 17. The final table will take place on April 21. Other major events include the C$3,500 High Roller (April 21-22) and the C$1,000 No-Limit Hold'em (April 12-13).
New events on the schedule include a C$300 Ladies Event (April 11), a C$400 Seniors Event (April 15), and a C$800 Mystery Bounty (April 14-15). The series winds up with a C$400 No-Limit Hold'em event on April 22.
The online qualifiers for the WSOP Toronto 2025 Main Event launched on March 4, with buy-ins starting from a mere $1. Direct satellites ranged from $10 to $50, awarding C$2,000 Main Event seats. However, the qualifiers mysteriously vanished from the platform shortly after.
Rumors circulated on social media, with some speculating that the removal was aimed at privileging live buy-in players. But this theory was debunked when an Ontario online poker player contacted GGPoker support, who explained that the qualifiers were "secretly shelved due to unforeseen technical issues." Support also assured that the qualifiers list would be reinstated as soon as possible.
The GGPoker team has not shared a timeline for the online qualifiers' return, leaving us to wonder if they will be back in time for the WSOPC Toronto, anticipated to draw an even larger crowd than last year’s 1,600 entries.
Last year’s Main Event amassed a C$2.8 million prize pool. Out of these, 324 players secured their seats through online qualifiers on GGPoker Ontario and the global GGPoker client. With numbers expected to climb this year, the demand for online qualifiers is evidently on the rise!
Last year, total prize pools exceeded the initial projection of C$3.9 million, eventually dishing out C$5.5 million in prize money across over 6,000 entries. Nevertheless, enthusiasm was high, and both venue capacity limitations and long registration lines led to some players being turned away even after late registration had closed[2]. As the event brings in larger crowds, organizers will need to address these logistical challenges to ensure a smooth poker festival.
- GGPoker, despite abruptly pulling the online qualifiers for the WSOP Toronto 2025, will still be the official sponsor of the poker room at the Great Canadian Casino Resort.
- The GGPoker team has not disclosed the reasons behind the removal of the online qualifiers for the WSOP Toronto 2025 Main Event, but they assured that these qualifiers would return, with direct satellites ranging from $1 to $50.
- With the anticipation of drawing an even larger crowd than last year’s 1,600 entries, there is a rising demand for online qualifiers for the WSOP Toronto 2025, as evident from the 324 players who secured their seats through online qualifiers on GGPoker Ontario and the global GGPoker client in the previous year.
