Pinterest Mimics Depop's Outfits with Shuffles and Collages
Pinterest has added Shuffles and collages to its main app, mimicking features found in Depop's AI-driven Outfits. Depop, acquired by Etsy in 2021, aims to become a daily destination for fashion inspiration with its Outfits feature. Peter Semple has taken the helm as permanent CEO, following a stint as interim leader.
Depop's journey began in 2021 when Etsy snapped it up for $1.6 billion. In 2022, the company introduced generative AI and image recognition technology, enabling it to create detailed product descriptions. This innovation paved the way for the launch of Outfits, an in-app feature allowing users to style outfits using marketplace inventory.
Outfits offers users a creative space to design looks. They can create collages, adjust item sizes, customize backgrounds, and even find similar sold-out items. The feature also allows users to save or share their creations. Depop's goal is to become a daily destination for fashion inspiration, much like Pinterest.
Peter Semple joined Depop as interim CEO in July 2023. After proving his mettle, he was named permanent CEO on July 28, 2025.
Depop's AI-driven Outfits feature is transforming the way users interact with the platform. With Peter Semple at the helm, the company continues to innovate, aiming to become a daily go-to for fashion inspiration.
