Police Warn of Current Bank Scam Targeting Customers' Personal Data

Police have issued a warning about a current scam targeting bank customers. The fraud involves letters instructing recipients to update their online banking, with the aim of stealing personal information and making unauthorised withdrawals.

Customers have reported receiving letters containing a QR code leading to a website that asks for sensitive information, including debit card PINs. The letters instruct recipients to schedule a phone call with an alleged personal advisor. During these calls, customers are persuaded to agree to the creation of a digital debit card in their banking app. The police advise not to react to such letters, scan QR codes, or enter personal information. Banks such as Wells Fargo and BOFA have been targeted, with warnings about phishing attempts issued to their customers. Unknown individuals can then create digital debit cards for customers' accounts and make withdrawals.

The police urge customers to be vigilant and not to respond to unsolicited letters or calls asking for personal banking information. If you suspect you have been targeted by this scam, contact your bank immediately and report it to the police.
