Posco Opens New EV Drive Motor Core Plant in Poland

Posco International has completed a new EV drive motor core plant in Brzeg, Poland. The EUR 57 million facility will begin trial production in October, with full commercial production starting in December. The plant has an annual output capacity of 1.2 million motor cores.

The plant's opening ceremony was attended by notable figures, including Posco International's CEO Lee Kye-In, Opole Governor Monika Jurek, and South Korean Ambassador Tae Jun-Yeol. The company aims to secure a 10% share of global EV drive motor core sales by 2030, with an annual production capacity of 7.5 million units across South Korea, Mexico, Poland, and India. The Mexican plant is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2025. The Polish plant is expected to supply 1.68 million units to Hyundai and Kia by 2033.

Posco's drive motor cores use Hyper NO steel sheets and EMFree technology, enhancing energy efficiency, driving range, and in-cabin quietness. While specific customers for the 35 million shares of drive motor cores are not yet known, Posco has plans to expand into the production of automotive components, including EV motor components.

The completion of the new EV drive motor core plant in Poland marks a significant step in Posco's expansion into the electric vehicle market. With advanced technology and ambitious production targets, the company is well-positioned to secure a significant share of the global market by 2030.
