Introducing the Mercedes-AMG E 53: A Performance Flagship for New Zealand's E-Class Lineup

The Mercedes-AMG E 53, the top performance version of the E-Class range in New Zealand, is set to make a mark with its impressive features and capabilities.

This PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle) comes equipped with standard AWD (All-Wheel Drive) and 4-wheel steering, providing an exceptional driving experience. The outer air inlets of the E 53 have two vertical fins, while the central A-wing is typical of an AMG front apron, adding to its distinctive look.

Under the hood, the E 53 combines a 3.0-litre straight-6 petrol engine with a 28.6kWh battery and a single electric motor for a combined output of 450kW/750km. This powerhouse allows the E 53 to be driven in pure-electric mode, selectable from the steering wheel-mounted controller.

The E 53 can accelerate from 0-100km/h in an impressive 3.8 seconds, thanks to the Race Start function that optimizes the vehicle for this performance. This function utilizes the full power of both the electric motor (120kW) and the combustion engine (330kW).

Inside, the E 53 features illuminated trim in grey open-pore ash wood with an AMG logo, electrically adjustable, climatized AMG sports seats with nappa leather upholstery, and the embossed AMG emblem on the front head restraints.

The standard specification includes the MBUX Superscreen with a 14.4-inch central display and a 12.3-inch passenger display, Active Ambient Lighting, Thermotronic 4-zone automatic climate control with Digital Vent Control, and a Burmester® 4D surround sound system with 17 speakers.

Wider front guards (an extra 11mm on each side) are present on the E 53 to accommodate the larger track width on the front axle. The model also boasts AMG-specific side skirts and an AMG-specific radiator trim with vertical slats in high-gloss chrome.

Additional features include a battery-hold setting, software and hardware changes such as a new twin-scroll turbocharger, additional front cooler, and a wheel arch cooler. Performance seats can be ordered as an option.

The E 53 is priced at $199,900 in the New Zealand market. With its impressive performance, luxurious interior, and advanced technology, the Mercedes-AMG E 53 is set to be a standout in the E-Class lineup.
