Pro-Ject Launches Affordable and Compact Tube-Powered Phono Stages
Pro-Ject Audio Systems, a renowned manufacturer of high-quality audio equipment, is set to release two new valve-driven phono stages: the Pro-Ject Tube Box E and the Tube Box S3 B. Both models will be available in the UK market in August 2025.
The Pro-Ject Tube Box E, priced at £240, offers a more compact and affordable solution for audiophiles seeking a low-noise amplification system. It features a fully discrete, dual-mono design without using operational amplifiers (OpAmps), ensuring a pure and unadulterated audio signal.
On the other hand, the Tube Box S3 B, priced at £529, is a larger and more feature-rich model. It offers a balanced signal path, which helps to eliminate noise and preserve the detail of the music. The Tube Box S3 B also boasts a fully symmetrical and discrete gain stage, allowing for a more refined listening experience.
One of the standout features of the Tube Box S3 B is its ability to store and recall settings for each connected turntable. It also has two input options, enabling simultaneous connection of two turntables. Additionally, it allows fine-tuning capacitance for MM cartridges and impedance for MC ones via dip-switches on the front panel.
Both the Tube Box E and Tube Box S3 B feature swappable/replaceable valves, ensuring easy maintenance and service over time. The Tube Box S3 B requires two individual amplifier sections internally and a more sophisticated electrical layout, contributing to its higher price point.
The Tube Box S3 B, when connected to a balanced-ready turntable via 5-pin Mini XLR, maintains a balanced signal path, further reducing noise and improving sound quality. This model is designed to support a wide range of moving magnet and moving coil cartridges.
