In a concerning development, Norwegian police have suggested that pro-Russian hackers may have successfully targeted critical water infrastructure in Europe for the first time since 2022. The revelation comes amidst a series of cyberattacks against Western nations, with an increase in such incidents creating fear and unrest.

According to reports by The Associated Press, over 70 incidents across Europe have been blamed on Russia, which Western officials have described as a disruption campaign. One such incident occurred in April, when hackers gained access to a digital system that remotely controls one of Norway's dams, opening a valve and increasing the water flow for around four hours. Fortunately, the open valve did not pose a danger to the surrounding area.

Beate Gangås, the director of the Norwegian Police Security Service, stated that cyberattacks against Western nations are increasing to create fear and unrest.
