Production of the latest Renault Twingo E-Tech is imminent
The automotive world is abuzz with the latest development from Renault - the new electric Twingo. Set to hit the production lines in Novo Mesto, Slovenia this autumn, the new model is the result of a rapid 21-month development cycle, thanks to the Ampere project.
Renault is spearheading this project, with its Ampere platform paving the way for a swift-to-market electric Twingo. Nissan, another partner in this venture, will launch a closely related version from 2026, sharing approximately 80% of components with the Twingo. Mitsubishi might also join the fray, releasing a version based on the same platform, following a similar approach.
The new electric Twingo boasts a 40-kWh battery and a 94 hp electric motor, aiming to deliver a driving range exceeding 200 miles (320 km). The anticipated price point is around £17,000 (approximately €19,500), a significant reduction in cost compared to the Renault 5 EV, thanks to reduced part counts and faster development.
The new Twingo Electric is not a rehash of the model launched and discontinued in 2024. This is a new generation, offering more comfort, power, and range compared to its predecessor. The design strongly resembles the original 1993 model, while the content being displayed is placeholder content, requiring users to click the "Unlock Content" button to access the actual content, which may involve sharing data with third parties.
A concept car of the new Twingo was presented at the beginning of 2025, providing a glimpse of a modern interior. The finalization of the new Twingo is taking place in France, with the design being created in France, while development and technical coordination will take place in China at the Renault subsidiary Ampere.
The market launch of the new generation Twingo is planned for spring 2026. The prototype of the electric city car was recently spotted near the Renault test center in Aubevoye. This project aligns with Renault Group’s strategic focus on quicker development cycles and cost-effective EV production under CEO François Provost’s leadership.
