Qualcomm Champions Smart Glasses Significance by 2025: Aim to Match the Essential Role of Smartphones by 2025 (Snapdragon XR Day 2025)

In a significant stride towards the growth of spatial computing in India, Qualcomm Technologies announced that it will be powering smart glasses in the country, with Lenskart, a leading Indian eyewear brand, as its key collaborator.

During the Snapdragon for India XR Day event, Qualcomm showcased a range of innovations, including the upcoming smart glasses. The partnership between Lenskart and Qualcomm aims to build on Lenskart's initial smart glasses model "Phonic," which included AI voice assistants and Bluetooth audio, by introducing more powerful AI-driven features such as voice-guided assistance, visual search, contextual notifications, and seamless on-device AI interactions.

Lenskart's next-generation smart glasses will feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon XR platform chipsets, potentially the Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1 or W5 Gen 1, to deliver advanced AI, augmented reality (AR), and low-power computing capabilities. This collaboration is expected to create AI-enabled, lightweight smart eyewear targeting Indian consumers and potentially global markets.

Qualcomm's Snapdragon XR platforms have already powered over 100 devices worldwide. These platforms enable smart glasses to support immersive AR, AI, and mixed reality (MR) experiences, tailored for varied use cases like education, remote support, and entertainment. This aligns well with India’s broader digital development goals.

Alex Katouzian, Group General Manager of Mobile, Compute & XR (MCX) at Qualcomm Technologies, shared insights on Snapdragon XR. He envisions a future where smart glasses will be as essential to daily life as smartphones. Savi Soin, Sr Vice President & President at Qualcomm India, echoed these sentiments, stating the growing need for spatial computing in today's digital landscape.

In addition to Lenskart, Qualcomm hinted at the arrival of Xiaomi's AI glasses during the event. However, specific details about their availability in India were not provided. Xiaomi's AI glasses, launched in China in June, are priced at CNY 1,999 (roughly Rs 24,000).

The Snapdragon for India XR Day event aimed to accelerate the growth of spatial computing in the Indian market. Along with the smart glasses, Qualcomm showcased a range of innovations across content capture, entertainment, fitness, and education at the event.

Qualcomm Technologies imagines that this technology, aligned with the vision of Viksit Bharat, will empower frontline workers, transform education in remote areas, and enable truly inclusive digital access. The company envisions smart glasses as essential to daily life, potentially revolutionizing the way we interact with technology.

As of now, Lenskart is the only brand explicitly identified in the provided search results as collaborating on Snapdragon-powered smart glasses development in India. The arrival of these smart glasses marks a significant step towards the integration of spatial computing in everyday life in India.

Smartphones and wearables could potentially be complemented by Lenskart's next-generation smart glasses, powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon XR platform chipsets. As the collaboration aims to develop AI-enabled eyewear for both Indian and global markets, smart-home-devices and other gadgets may also interact with these smart glasses, further integrating technology into everyday life.

With Qualcomm's Snapdragon XR platforms already powering over 100 devices worldwide, including anticipated AI glasses from Xiaomi, this technology could indeed become as essential to daily life as smartphones, aligning with India’s broader digital development goals and the vision of Viksit Bharat.
