Reduced price on Fiat 500e two-door city electric hatchback: manufacturer cuts $20,000 from tag
In a move to make electric vehicles (EVs) more accessible, Fiat has announced a major price reduction for its 500e and Abarth 500e Scorpionissima models in Australia. The new drive-away prices for the 500e La Prima and Abarth 500e Scorpionissima are $38,990 and $43,990 respectively, marking a substantial discount from their usual prices of $52,500 and $60,500 before on-road costs.
These price reductions are part of a limited-time promotion running until September 30 or while stocks last. According to the company, the aim is to make these small city EVs more affordable for Australian consumers.
The 500e comes equipped with an 87 kW front-mounted motor that delivers a peak torque output of 220 Nm. The Abarth 500e Scorpionissima, on the other hand, boasts a more powerful front-mounted motor producing 114 kW of power and 235 Nm of torque. The Scorpionissima also accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 7 seconds, which is 2 seconds faster than the standard 500e.
Both models feature a 42 kWh battery pack and DC fast charging capabilities. The Abarth 500e Scorpionissima can charge from 10-80% in around 35 minutes with DC fast charging speeds of up to 85 kW. The 500e also supports DC fast charging at up to 85 kW, making it quick for a car with its small battery.
In terms of range, the Abarth 500e Scorpionissima offers a range of up to 252 km, while the 500e can travel up to 311 km on a single charge according to WLTP ratings. The 500e La Prima variant also offers practicality with up to 550 L of boot space when the rear seats are folded down.
Riz Akhtar, a mechanical engineer and the founder of carloop, a Melbourne-based company specializing in Australian EV data, insight reports, and trends, welcomed the price reductions. Akhtar, who currently drives a red Tesla Model 3, has a passion for cars, particularly EVs, and wants to help reduce transport emissions in Australia. Akhtar spent the first 7 years of his career building transport infrastructure before starting carloop.
These price reductions are expected to run until 30 September 2025 or until stock is available on these models. With the new prices, Fiat's 500e and Abarth 500e Scorpionissima are poised to become more attractive options for Australian consumers looking for affordable and practical city EVs.
