Refreshed Qualys VMDR and Core Applications: Unstoppable Cybersecurity Alliance for Vulnerability Management and ITSM Integration

In a significant move towards strengthening the collaboration between IT and Security teams, Qualys has introduced the enhanced Qualys VMDR & Core Apps. These updated applications, now available in the ServiceNow Store, were announced in June 2022.

The new apps come with a host of features designed to close the gap between these two critical teams. One of the key additions is the ability for customers to use Vulnerability Grouping Rules to create automated change request tickets for open vulnerabilities. This automation not only saves time but also ensures that potential security threats are addressed promptly.

When paired with CMDB Sync, the apps can accurately map vulnerabilities to corresponding assets, achieving a high match rate. This feature enhances the overall effectiveness of the vulnerability management process by ensuring that remediation efforts are targeted accurately.

The updated apps comply with ITIL standards by creating tasks directly in ServiceNow's Incident Management table. This alignment with ServiceNow's ITSM guidelines ensures a smoother experience for both new and existing users. Tasks will now be created directly in the Incident Management table by default, improving compatibility with ServiceNow's ITSM practices.

Security teams can approve or reject False Positive requests upon investigation. The new 'Source' field and updated task navigation menus improve visibility into the origin of incidents. Any ticket created by the apps will now have a 'Source' field in the Incident table, with a value of "Qualys", improving traceability.

The new end-to-end approval workflow captures compensatory controls and files exceptions for vulnerabilities tickets. Users can migrate tasks from the app's custom table to the Incident table using the migration jobs bundled within the app.

The updated Qualys VMDR & Core Apps are set to receive new vulnerability detection source visibility features coming soon in Q3 2025. These improvements are expected to enhance detection precision and audit readiness.

All existing reports have been retained in the updated version of the app for tracking the progress of open vulnerabilities. A new custom view for the Incident table, named "Qualys VMDR" view, displays all relevant fields from the Qualys platform.

The update to the Core and VMDR apps brings key benefits such as smooth data migration, retaining key use cases, improved ticket grouping, and a complete end-to-end risk acceptance process. The apps can be requested from the ServiceNow store for compatibility with Xanadu, Washington DC, and Vancouver.

Upon change approval, an automated patch deployment job will be initiated in the Qualys Patch Management module. The new features in the Qualys VMDR for ITSM and Qualys Core apps are set to revolutionise the way IT and Security teams collaborate, making vulnerability management more efficient and effective.
