Reinforcement of Dam Dikes with Sewage Resin Sealants
In a groundbreaking development, Singapore has become the first sales country for the innovative sealing system, Triflex ProTect, which was recently used to seal the inverted roof of a high-altitude dam wall.
Triflex ProTect is a specialized sealing system designed for inverted roofs. It is required to have excellent adhesion to asphalt, durability against temperature fluctuations, and resistance to water, ice, and snow.
The application process involves pre-treating the substrate with a diamond grinding machine and priming it with CrylPrimer 222, both from Triflex. The sealing itself is done with ProDetail, a quick-hardening product that offers several advantages, especially in changing weather conditions.
The dam wall, located in high mountains, faces extreme loads, including constant water pressure, dynamic loads from the power plant, and temperature fluctuations. It also experiences cracks during winter months, which were repaired with the mortar CrylSpachtel before detail sealing with ProDetail.
ProDetail, when applied, creates a seamless surface that is mechanically highly resistant. The fleece reinforcement in ProDetail adds stability and flexibility, following building movements and keeping the seal permanently tight. This ensures the surface remains protected under extreme weather conditions.
The dam wall is equipped with sensors that detect movements in the millimeter range and measure water loss. If water loss exceeds critical limit values, sealing measures must be taken. In this case, the dam wall was sealed within five weeks using ProDetail.
ProDetail has the classification W3 according to EAD 030350-00-0402, confirming its resistance. After hardening, ProDetail is permanently weather-resistant, UV-resistant, and hydrolysis-resistant.
This project marks a significant milestone for Triflex, as Singapore is the first country to use their sealing system for such a high-profile project. The company that developed and applied the dam reinforcement system with the described properties is Müpro, which also provided the static calculation for it.
In addition to this project, there are other job listings available on the topic. The City Planning Office is currently hiring a Head of Department, and a Civil Engineer Specialist in Civil Engineering is also seeking applicants.
With its successful application on the high-altitude dam wall, Triflex ProTect has proven its suitability for complex geometries and its ability to provide full adhesion, preventing overhang. This makes it a valuable solution for similar projects in the future.
