Remington Brings Back .22 Short, America's First Metallic Cartridge

Remington Ammunition has reintroduced the .22 Short, America's first metallic cartridge, originally developed in 1857. This classic round is now available nationwide, offering a low-recoil, low-noise option for plinking, pest control, and training new shooters.

The .22 Short line features two load options: a 27-grain hollow point and a 29-grain round nose. Both are available in 50-count boxes at an MSRP of $7.99. The 29-grain round nose bullet is designed for deep penetration, while the 27-grain hollow point expands on impact. Dan Compton, Remington's Rimfire Product Director, praised the .22 Short as perfect for varmint specialists and first-time shooters.

Remington Ammunition announced the reintroduction of the .22 Short in May 2021. Since then, production has ramped up, and the cartridges are now shipping to dealers across the country.
