Upgrading Heritage Baptist Church's Sound System

The Heritage Baptist Church in Zebulon, North Carolina, recently decided to upgrade their Martin Audio equipment, swapping out the 2000 installation with the O-Line micro-line array. Previously, RMB Audio had installed Wavefront W0.5 miniature speakers, forming a splayed array that aimed at covering the church's 600-seat auditorium under a vaulted pentagonal roof.

Now, after 15 years, it was time for an upgrade. A cell defect in the vintage system prompted the search for a replacement. Cooper Cannady, RMB's owner, opted for the O-Line micro-line array, with two eight-element hangs proposed following modelling in Martin Audio's DISPLAY software and comparing the results with existing room data.

The new rig, suspended from the existing half-circle frame, comprehensively covers both the floor and balcony seating. The architectural adjustments have rendered the under-balcony C115 speakers redundant for the last four rows of rear seating.

The transition proved effortless, as the system ran effectively off the church's existing amplifiers. The installation went smoothly, with angles fitting neatly into place. "The quality has increased tremendously," said Cannady, praising the significant improvement in sound quality. He added that older attendees, in particular, appreciated the upgrade due to improved speech intelligibility.

The O-Line micro-line array offers several advantages. For instance, it minimizes wall reflections, lobing, and low-end thrust to the stage, fostering a balanced, immersive acoustic environment. Notably, each box requires only a single amplifier channel, although a future plan includes integrating Martin Audio's DX4.0 system controller for further adjustment, such as limiting and minor frequency tweaks.

Overall, Heritage Baptist Church's decision to upgrade their Martin Audio equipment with the O-Line micro-line array brought enhancements in terms of coverage, sound quality, efficiency, and user experience. The congregation, especially the older members, now enjoy a more engaging, audible, and enjoyable experience during services.

  1. The new sound system, consisting of the O-Line micro-line array, has replaced the 15-year-old gadgets at the Heritage Baptist Church, enhancing the overall audio experience.
  2. In the process of upgrading the church's technology, Cooper Cannady, the owner of RMB Audio, chose the O-Line micro-line array for its efficiency, minimizing wall reflections and requiring only a single amplifier channel per box.
