"Ride-hailing regulation to commence from October 2025" or "New rules for ride-sharing services to take effect in October 2025" or "Enforcement of the new law for ride-hailing services set for October 2025"
In a bid to improve the ride-hailing industry and address concerns at Suvarnabhumi Airport, the Thai Ministry of Transport has introduced a series of new regulations. These regulations aim to ensure the safety and transparency of ride-hailing services, treating them as "regulators and supervisors" under the new Digital Platform Services (DPS) law.
One of the key responsibilities of ride-hailing platforms is the verification of drivers and vehicles. All drivers must hold a valid public driving licence and use only vehicles registered as public transport. Impersonation or account-sharing, driving under another person's name, or using unregistered vehicles are prohibited. Strict identity checks (KYC) are required for both riders and drivers to maintain security.
To promote accountability, platforms must provide easy access to emergency assistance, complaint channels, and fair mechanisms to resolve disputes. Real-time GPS tracking is available throughout the journey, ensuring transparency and safety for passengers. All journey data is recorded as evidence in case of disputes.
Drivers are expected to follow traffic laws without exception. They must complete identity verification with the ride-hailing platform and adhere to the platform's policies, which include preventing impersonation or account-sharing, enforcing penalties on violators, and ensuring repeat offenses are avoided.
Passengers can rest assured that they have easy access to emergency assistance and complaint channels. Before booking a ride, they can see essential details, including the driver's name, photo, licence number, vehicle registration, GPS location, route, and clear fare.
The new regulations, set to take effect in October 2025, are part of a broader effort to regulate the ride-hailing market in Thailand, which is projected to reach 45 billion baht by 2025. The aim is to create a safer, more transparent, and more efficient ride-hailing industry for both drivers and passengers.
