Rüsselsheim Launches Digital Divide Initiative for Seniors
Rüsselsheim is launching an initiative to bridge the digital divide for its senior citizens. An event on April 29 at the House of Senior Citizens will invite volunteers to join the cause, aiming to make the digital world more accessible. Mayor Murat Karakaya is spearheading this effort, with the Aging Coordination Office leading the project.
The Rüsselsheim Digital Guides project will kick off on September 16, offering on-site consultations for seniors. Both senior citizens and younger volunteers can participate, with flexible time commitments and activities. Marius Volkmann from the Aging Coordination Office is the point of contact for volunteer inquiries (Phone: 06142 83-2120, Email: Marius.Volkmannruesselsheimde).
The initiative recognizes the challenges and uncertainties that increasing digitalization presents to older people. Volunteers, who need not be IT specialists, will play a crucial role in training seniors with patience and enjoyment. The Aging Coordination Office plans to expand training offers for seniors on digital devices.
The event on April 29 marks the start of Rüsselsheim's commitment to helping its senior citizens navigate the digital world. With the launch of the Digital Guides project and the support of volunteers, the city aims to remove barriers and foster digital inclusion among its older residents.
