Samsung and the Winklevoss Duo Push for Integrating NFTs onto Your Television Sets

"What's the deal with NFTs?" is a question I frequently ponder. I'm still figuring it out, but Samsung seems determined to place them in your living room regardless.

In a public announcement, Nifty Gateway—a venture owned by the Winklevoss Twins, famous for suing Mark Zuckerberg but now renowned crypto tycoons—revealed their alliance with Samsung. This partnership aims to introduce NFTs to Samsung TVs.

Certain Samsung smart TV models, such as QLED and Neo QLED, will grant access to Nifty Gateway's NFT marketplace. If you own a Samsung Micro LED TV or the Frame TV, you're also eligible to use the app. Since the Frame TV is primarily designed to showcase art on your TV, it's the most logical choice to serve as an NFT delivery device.

If you're contemplating buying a TV to show off NFTs, Samsung encourages you to choose their models as the ideal vessel for displaying these supposed 'masterpieces'. As we reported during Samsung's initial announcement at CES 2022, the company will provide a Smart Calibration tool to adjust the TV display settings to match an NFT's prerequisite values. If you're willing to spend heavily on an NFT resembling mock Simpsons art, at least make it look purposeful. Samsung even demonstrated how Ambient Mode has been enhanced for this specific application during a recent live broadcast.

Samsung's TVs won't just display NFTs. Nifty Gateway will offer access to its marketplace, enabling you to purchase art via your remote control. Various payment methods are available, including debit/credit cards and cryptocurrency. Before indulging in this, consider the time when Nifty was breached, and thousands of dollars worth of art were stolen. Investing in costly digital goods with a TV remote click may not be wise.

As demonstrated by its foldable smartphones, Samsung has managed to score wins while following trends. However, Nifty Gateway's track record is yet to earn enough acclaim for a grand celebration. Additionally, it seems risky to collaborate with a company selling NFTs, given the current industry's lack of regulation. Moreover, the backlash against companies entering into partnerships with the crypto sector could mean more issues than benefits.

Given its history of embracing the latest technology trends, it's no surprise that Samsung is exploring the waters of NFTs. After all, this company promoted the concept of 3D TVs in homes a decade ago, and we all know how that turned out.

The future of tech and technology is clearly evident in Samsung's moves, as they aim to integrate NFTs into their TVs. This collaboration with Nifty Gateway will allow users to directly purchase NFT art using their TV remotes.
