Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 Break Preorder Records

In a groundbreaking move for Samsung Electronics, the preorders for their latest foldable smartphones, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7, have set new records in South Korea. As of July 21, 2025, a total of 1.04 million preorders were recorded, surpassing the previous highest of 1.02 million units for the Z Fold 5 and Flip 5 combined[1].

The Z Fold 7 accounted for 60% of total preorders, while the Z Flip 7 took 40%. This is a significant shift from earlier years when the Flip models dominated, with the Flip having around 70% of preorders and the Fold only 30%[2][3]. The Z Fold 6 and Flip 6 together had 910,000 preorders, making the new generation’s figures considerably higher[1].

The growth trend for the Fold series is notable because, despite being roughly twice as expensive as the Flip models, the Fold 7’s refined design and features have attracted a larger share of buyers, indicating a rising preference for the book-style foldable phone[2][3]. Meanwhile, the Flip remains a strong runner-up with very healthy preorder numbers[1][4].

The Z Fold 7 is Samsung's thinnest and lightest foldable to date, measuring just 8.9 millimeters when folded and 4.2 millimeters when unfolded, with a weight of 215 grams[5]. The cover display of the Galaxy Z Flip7 features ultra-slim 1.25mm bezels.

Interestingly, more than half of the customers who purchased the new foldables on Samsung's official online store are in their teens, 20s, and 30s[6]. The sales proportion between the two models stood at 6-to-4 in favor of the Z Fold7.

Samsung Electronics has started selling the Galaxy Z Flip7 and Z Fold7, along with the Galaxy Watch8 series in Korea. The Galaxy Watch8 series includes an upgraded running coach, a vascular stress monitoring function during sleep, and a dynamic lug system for enhanced wrist movement[7]. The Watch8 series is also being sold alongside the Galaxy Z Flip7 and Z Fold7 in Korea.

This preorder data marks a historic first where the Fold model outperforms the Flip in customer demand[1][2][3]. The strong preorder performance for the Z series is seen globally, including India, where foldable preorders are approaching those of the flagship Galaxy S25 series, underscoring foldables’ growing market acceptance[4].
