Solx Launches Puerto Rico's First Solar Module Factory, Creating 200 Jobs

Puerto Rico's first solar module manufacturing facility is set to commence operations, with U.S.-based Solx leading the production. The company, which has received grants from Puerto Rico, aims to create over 200 jobs and contribute significantly to the island's renewable energy sector.

Solx, a U.S.-based company, is establishing its first manufacturing facility in Puerto Rico. The plant, set to begin operations soon, will produce an annual 700 MW to 800 MW of solar modules, specifically 72-cell N-type modules tailored for the utility-scale market.

The company has invested a total of $64 million in the project, which is expected to create more than 200 permanent jobs as production scales. Puerto Rico has supported Solx with grants covering 10% of equipment costs and per employee for job creation. The facility uses the largest laminators in North America, enabling higher throughput and efficient production.

Solx has partnered with Origami Solar to source steel frames for the modules, including a large-format G12 module. The major assembly-line equipment has been installed, calibrated, and tested, with a commercial operation date expected by the end of the year. The facility will offer turnkey OEM solutions, fully traceable domestic content, and Federal Entity of Concern-compliant solar modules.

Solx's Puerto Rico facility marks a significant step in the island's transition to renewable energy. With plans to expand into the U.S. mainland by 2026 and reach 10 GW of manufacturing capacity by 2030, the company is poised to make a substantial impact on the solar industry.
