Sony's Ethereum Network to Host Square Enix's NFT-Based Game

Game behemoth Square Enix, responsible for the iconic franchises like Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts, recently unveiled a major expansion for their blockchain game Symbiogenesis. This groundbreaking move sees the title branching out to Soneium, Sony's Ethereum layer-2 network!

Symbiogenesis initially found its footing on Ethereum's scaling network, Polygon. With its forthcoming final season wrapping up, Square Enix is far from stopping its association with Sony on the blockchain front.

This alliance links Symbiogenesis with two other Soneium games: the sleep-to-earn sensation, Sleepagotchi, and the competitive battler, Evermoon. Completing limited-time quests in Symbiogenesis will grant players exclusive NFT collectibles that unlock rewards across all three games. It's not just about digital trinkets; these NFTs grant exclusive perks and in-game bonuses.

The campaign is live now, and players must complete the main story epilogues from Chapters 1-4 in Symbiogenesis by May 31 to qualify for the rewards.

Soneium was hatched by Sony Block Solutions Labs, a collaboration between Sony Group Corporation and blockchain powerhouse Startale Group. As a decentralized network, Soneium welcomes teams to build upon it, meaning this move doesn't equate to a direct partnership between Square Enix and Sony, nor ties with Sony's PlayStation gaming brand.

Their shared past is palpable; Square Enix introduced the unmistakable Final Fantasy VII to the world on the original PlayStation in 1997, fostering an enduring partnership with the tech titan.

As for Symbiogenesis, although its current season is set to end in July, further discussions with Soneium for potential collaborations are underway—but Soneium remains tight-lipped about future plans.
