South African digital payments company, Peach Payments, teams up with MoneyBadger to facilitate Bitcoin transactions

South African payment service provider Peach Payments has partnered with local crypto payments platform MoneyBadger to enable merchants across South Africa, Kenya, and Mauritius to accept crypto payments. This partnership marks Peach Payments' first integration with a crypto payment solution.

Through this partnership, consumers can pay with Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies by selecting "pay with Bitcoin," scanning a QR code, or using a payment button that populates wallet details on mobile devices. The merchant receives settlement in South African rands the next business day, thus avoiding crypto volatility for the merchant.

MoneyBadger supports multiple wallets such as Luno, VALR, Binance, and Bitcoin Lightning wallets including Aqua, Blink, Breez, Alby, and Strike. This integration makes it easier for foreign consumers without local bank accounts or cards to shop with South African merchants and facilitates remittances from expats to local recipients.

The partnership aims to attract the growing young, tech-savvy demographic aged 18-34, which represents a significant portion of crypto users in South Africa, helping merchants tap into this market. As of mid-2025, MoneyBadger processed nearly 20,000 crypto payment transactions amounting to around R7.7 million with Peach Payments merchants, reflecting rapidly growing usage and mainstream adoption of Bitcoin payments for everyday items like hardware and lighting.

Anine de Kock, head of partnerships at Peach Payments, stated that MoneyBadger was the obvious choice for their first crypto partnership. The partnership between Peach Payments and MoneyBadger continues to expand the adoption of digital currencies in the African market.

Moreover, the integration with Binance Pay further streamlines instant crypto payments without gas fees, supporting over 100 cryptocurrencies and facilitating stablecoin use, which minimizes volatility risks. The solution is planned for eventual expansion to other Peach Payments territories beyond South Africa.

In summary, the partnership significantly broadens crypto asset acceptance by Peach Payments, making Bitcoin and other digital currencies a functional, mainstream payment option for retail transactions in Southern Africa and beyond. Peach Payments and MoneyBadger aim to simplify the process of accepting and making digital currency payments, making them more accessible to a wider consumer group.

Merchants can now accept various cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin via MoneyBadger, their partner in digital finance, simplifying transactions for both local and foreign consumers. This integrated technology allows merchants to receive settlement in South African rands, minimizing the risk of volatility in the business sector.
