South Korea's battery electric vehicle (BEV) market has witnessed a significant rebound in the first nine months of 2025. Sales surged by 57% to 170,514 units, driven by new models, improved ranges, and expanded charging infrastructure.
Leading the pack was Tesla's Model Y, which sold 37,035 units, securing the top spot. Kia's EV3 followed closely with 18,732 deliveries, while Hyundai's Ioniq 5 took the third position with 12,204 units. Kia's EV6 and Ray EV rounded off the top five with 7,954 and 7,901 units respectively.
The overall sales of battery-powered passenger vehicles increased by 67% to 153,195 units, representing over 13% of total passenger vehicle sales. This growth can be attributed to the introduction of new models and improved features. Notably, China's BYD launched three BEV models in South Korea, receiving over 1,000 pre-sale agreements.
The BEV market in South Korea continues to grow, with Tesla, Kia, and Hyundai leading the charge. The increased demand, driven by consumer preference and improved offerings, signals a promising future for electric vehicles in the country.
