Spain's EV Market Booms: Sales Up 83% in H1 2025, Charging Points Surge
Spain's electric vehicle (EV) market is booming. In the first half of 2025, over 111,000 electric cars were sold, a staggering 83% increase from the same period last year. One in five vehicles sold in Spain now has some form of electrification. The country is also expanding its charging infrastructure at a rapid pace.
In June 2025 alone, Spain sold over 27,000 electric cars, including over 11,000 pure electric passenger cars. Major cities like Madrid and Barcelona, known for their environmental policies, are leading the way in EV charging infrastructure. However, specific rankings of cities with the highest density of charging points were not found.
The growth in EV sales has been accompanied by a significant increase in charging points. Spain now has almost 50,000 active public access charging points, a 4.71% increase from the end of 2024. Rapid charging points (22-50 kW) have seen a 21.34% increase, while high-power charging points (50-250 kW and above 250 kW) have grown by 64.07% and 53.71% respectively.
Spain's electric mobility sector is experiencing remarkable growth and dynamism. With one in five vehicles sold being electric and a significant increase in charging points, the country is well on its way to becoming a leader in electric vehicle adoption in Europe.
