2024 Democratic National Convention in Chicago Cranks Up the Tunes
The second day of the 2024 Democratic National Convention in the Windy City was a whole lot of hype, with some scorching speeches from none other than former President Barack Obama and his better half, Michelle. But the real fireworks happened during the states' roll call, complete with a kickin' playlist now available on Spotify.
This traditional event showcases delegates from each state, Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, the Virgin Islands, Democrats abroad, and Washington, D.C. Usually, they're there to pump up their own state and the candidate. On Tuesday night, DJ Cassidy mixed things up, matching a song to each state's introduction, and some of these tunes were nothing short of epic.
From name-dropping (shoutout to the B-52s' "Private Idaho" for Idaho) to tributes (West Virginia got "Take Me Home, Country Roads" by John Denver), most of the tracks came from artists hailing from their states, like The Killers' "Mr. Brightside" for Nevada or "Don't Stop Til You Get Enough" by Michael Jackson for Indiana. Georgia's own Atlanta native, Lil Jon, even took the stage for a live performance of "Turn Down for What."
Here's a rundown of the tunes for each state:

This musical line-up is definitely setting the DNC apart from the Republican National Convention last month. Seems like the music world takes a liking to the Democrats compared to the opposition. Donald Trump has found himself on the wrong side of the law, facing multiple lawsuits for playing artists' songs without their consent during his campaigns.
With Wednesday night being the third night of the DNC, expect more tunes, as Pink and John Legend take the stage, together with more than a dozen speakers. Minnesota governor and Vice President hopeful Tim Walz will close out the event. Let's see what tunes are in store for us then!
- The playlist during the states' roll call at the 2024 Democratic National Convention can be found on Spotify, showcasing a diverse range of songs that were specially selected to match each state's introduction.
- Some of these tracks were performed live, such as Lil Jon's rendition of "Turn Down for What" for Georgia, adding an extra layer of excitement to the event.
- The musical line-up for the DNC is a significant departure from the Republican National Convention's, with artists generally appearing more willing to have their music played at Democratic events compared to the opposition.
- As the convention continues into Wednesday night, with appearances from Pink, John Legend, and Minnesota governor Tim Walz, anticipation builds for the next round of songs that will underscore the speeches and heighten the overall atmosphere.
