Tesla Model Y Charging Costs in India and Upcoming Supercharger Stations
Tesla Model Y owners in India can expect to pay over ₹2,000 for a full charge on the Long Range variant when using the Tesla Supercharger network[1][3]. The cost per kWh of electricity consumed at the Superchargers is set at ₹24[2][3][5].
This cost is determined by multiplying the Model Y Long Range’s battery capacity by the Supercharger rate per kWh. Tesla India’s first Supercharger station, located in India, offers up to 250 kW charging, with the payment handled via the Tesla app[2][3][5].
For the Standard variant of the Model Y, a full charge costs approximately ₹1,800, indicating the Long Range model’s battery is larger, justifying the higher cost[1][3]. Tesla also offers Destination Chargers, which are slower AC chargers, at ₹14 per kWh. However, these chargers take significantly longer to fully charge compared to the fast Supercharger[3][5].
It is worth noting that the charging speed of the Tesla Model Y on the Supercharger can be affected by factors such as the battery's current state of charge and temperature[6].
In other news, Tesla is preparing to launch its second experience centre in India, located in Delhi. The company also plans to open new Supercharger stations in Lower Parel, Thane, and Navi Mumbai by September, as well as in Aerocity, Noida, and Gurugram[4].
Meanwhile, the VinFast VF7 75.3 kWh variant, priced between ₹60 - 65 Lakhs, is expected to have a range of 450 km[7]. The Tesla Model Y 75 kWh variant, priced at ₹ 59.89 Lakhs, offers a range of 622 km, while the MG M9 EV 90 kWh variant, priced at ₹ 69.90 Lakhs, boasts a range of 548 km[8]. The Volvo C40 Recharge 78 kWh variant, priced at ₹ 62.95 Lakhs, has a range of 530 km[9].
