Tesla's App Now Boasts a Fresh AI-Driven Customer Service Agent
Tesla Introduces AI-Powered Assistant, Tesla Assist, in New Mobile App and In-Car Integration
Tesla has recently unveiled a new app-based assistant called Tesla Assist, designed to provide quick, accurate answers to a wide range of queries for Tesla owners on the go. This new feature is now available in the Tesla mobile app and is also being integrated into Tesla vehicles, starting with the 2025.26 software update last month.
The AI backend powering Tesla Assist is Grok, the conversational chatbot developed by Elon Musk’s company xAI. Grok is a large language model chatbot adapted for voice interaction in Tesla cars, aiming to converse naturally like a human rather than just execute basic voice commands.
Initially, Grok is available in beta and does not yet control vehicle functions like navigation or driving, but focuses on conversational assistance and entertainment. Elon Musk has confirmed ongoing developments, including adding speech output to Grok, which will enhance its interactivity and usability inside the car, making it a more capable assistant compared to prior voice systems.
The rollout started with new Tesla vehicles delivered after July 12, 2025, and is part of Tesla's broader AI strategy led by xAI to improve in-car AI experiences. The addition of Tesla Assist to the mobile app could indicate a shift towards a unified AI support experience across all platforms.
Tesla Assist can handle support queries across Tesla's product ecosystem. Users can type in queries on a wide range of topics such as vehicle specifications, maintenance information, or how to use certain in-app features. The new feature allows Tesla owners to get answers to product-related questions without needing to call or email customer service.
To access Tesla Assist, simply open the app's menu and tap the question mark in the top-right corner. The video below, courtesy of Sawyer Merritt, shows Tesla Assist in action:

As Tesla Assist and Grok continue to evolve, they are set to become a fully featured conversational assistant within Tesla vehicles, providing a more advanced and interactive voice assistant experience inside Tesla cars, replacing or enhancing Tesla’s previous voice control systems.
The AI-powered assistant, Tesla Assist, now available in the Tesla mobile app and integrating into Tesla vehicles, employs Grok – a conversational chatbot developed by Elon Musk’s company xAI. With ongoing developments, Grok aims to converse naturally like a human, making it a more capable artificial-intelligence assistant compared to prior voice systems in Tesla cars.
