Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2, the critically acclaimed action-adventure game, has made its way to PlayStation 5 as part of Microsoft's strategy to bring selected first-party Xbox Game Studios titles to rival platforms.
The PlayStation 5 version of Hellblade 2 launched on August 12, 2025, simultaneously releasing an Enhanced update on all platforms, including Xbox and PC. This update is free for existing owners on those platforms, delivering numerous improvements such as 60 FPS performance mode (not available on Xbox Series S), enhanced graphics, and additional features.

The PS5 version is considered the ultimate edition of the game with improvements that build upon the original Xbox release. It features enhanced visuals, optimized performance for PS5 and PS5 Pro, and delivers a notably strong audio-visual experience, praised for its cinematic quality and immersive sound design that deepens the portrayal of psychosis through Senua's voices. Combat and puzzle elements feel more seamless and refined in this version, addressing some critiques of the original game's combat and puzzle design.
Critical Success and Wide Acclaim
Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 received a "Generally Favorable" score of 81 on Metacritic. In their review for the website, my colleague Zachary Boddy called the game "absolute art on every level" and awarded it 4.5/5 stars. The game was widely regarded as one of last year's best Xbox games.
Cross-Platform Reach
The expansion to PlayStation 5 marks a shift from the typical exclusivity model Microsoft used for this game at launch. This approach effectively opened the game to a wider audience while the Enhanced update brought performance and graphical improvements that enhanced the player experience on all platforms.
Additional Content and Crossovers
Helldivers 2, a hit PS5 and PC shooter, is scheduled to launch on Xbox a few weeks after the release of Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2. Developer Arrowhead has teased a Halo 3: ODST crossover in Helldivers 2. A Developer Commentary mode is available in Hellblade 2 for insights into the game's creation.
