The KBS Arena, originally known as the KBS 88 Seoul Olympics Arena, has undergone a significant audio upgrade, transforming it into a world-class venue for festival performances. This transformation was made possible through the installation of JBL SRX900 series loudspeakers, a professional-grade sound system designed for high-performance live sound and event production.
The JBL SRX900 series, launched last year, has achieved significant global recognition, with South Korea being a major market for sales. KBS Arena is now equipped with a line array sound system that includes 30 SRX910LA speakers, 18 SRX928S subwoofers, and 12 SRX906LA speakers for the LL/RR channels.
The JBL SRX900 series boasts several key features that make it an ideal choice for large venues like the KBS Arena. These include high power handling and output, advanced waveguide technology, a modular design, robust build quality, integrated DSP and amplification (in powered models), connectivity, and compatibility.
- High Power Handling and Output: The SRX900 series is designed to deliver high SPL (Sound Pressure Levels) suitable for large venues and arenas. It typically comes equipped with powerful woofers and high-frequency drivers for clear, impactful sound.
- Advanced Waveguide Technology: Featuring JBL’s patented Differential Drive® woofers and advanced horn waveguides, the SRX900 series provides wide, consistent dispersion of sound, ensuring even coverage throughout large audience areas and minimizing dropouts or dead zones.
- Modular Design: The SRX900 series can be used as standalone loudspeakers or configured into line arrays for scalable sound reinforcement. This flexibility in configuration optimizes performance for various room sizes and acoustics.
- Robust Build Quality: Constructed with durable materials, the SRX900 series is built to withstand the rigors of touring and permanent install environments. Some models even offer weather-resistant options suitable for indoor/outdoor use.

TechDataPS, the partner responsible for executing the project, installed the JBL Professional line array sound system at the KBS Arena. Oh-Sang Kwon, the manager of KBS Sports World and KBS Arena, stated that performance organizers now prefer to use the in-house JBL Professional equipment without bringing their own sound system.
The KBS Arena aims to specialize as a world-class venue for festival performances, including indie, rock bands, and hip-hop. With its new sound system in place, it is well-equipped to host a variety of performances, enhancing the audience experience for concerts and events.
This upgrade has gained significant global recognition, with South Korea being the top market for sales outside of the U.S. Amar Subash, VP and GM of HARMAN Professional Solutions, APAC, stated that the KBS Arena has been transformed into a perfect venue for future landmark performances. The arena has also adapted to the rise of online platforms and digital media by incorporating eticketing systems and enhancing its online presence. In 2012, KBS Arena underwent renovations to modernize and improve its facilities.
