Title: Welcome to the Era of Beta Babies: Raising the Next Generation in the Age of AI, AGI, and Artificial Superintelligence (2025-2039)

Welcome to the new era of Generation Beta, born from January 1, 2025, and stretching until 2039. This ambitious group is going to grow up in the heart of an anticipated technological revolution, with artificial intelligence (AI) playing a central role.

What's in store for Beta babies?

Let's dive right in and have a chat about it.

This article is an extension of my ongoing exploration of the latest developments in AI, as featured in the Our Website column (check it out here).

The eras of modern times

Before diving into the unique traits of Generation Beta, let us briefly review the contemporary eras that our society has named:

  1. The Silent Generation (1928–1945)
  2. Baby Boomers (1946–1964)
  3. Generation X (1965–1980)
  4. The Millennials (1981–1996)
  5. Generation Z (1997–2012)
  6. Generation Alpha (2013–2024)
  7. Generation Beta (2025–2039)

With a fresh start in 2025, Generation Beta has risen to the scene, less than two months ago. It's still too early to tell much about this generation, apart from their cute and curious baby faces. However, what lies ahead for them is quite intriguing – being part of the era when AI might make its most significant leap forward, potentially towards artificial general intelligence (AGI) and artificial superintelligence (ASI).

AI as an integral part of their lives

AI is poised to play a transformative role in Generation Beta's lives. With its latest advancements, such as generative AI, the technology has evoked a new wave of excitement and anticipation. The young minds of Generation Beta will be exposed to AI from an early age, making them digital natives and – more specifically - AI natives, living in an era where AI has become an inseparable part of their lives.

The pervasiveness of AI

Given that modern generations are traditionally dubbed "digital natives," we can expect Generation Beta to grow up as natural AI users. In their everyday lives, they will use AI to learn, work, and have fun, treating it as an everyday tool. The irony is that AI is an artificial human construction, not inherent to nature itself. However, its integration will become so seamless that Generation Beta will perceive it as a natural extension of human capabilities.

Predicting the future of AI

If AI continues to evolve at the same pace we have seen, we can make some educated guesses about what their lives might look like:

  1. Education: AI-assisted teachers will become common practice across schools. AI-driven learning platforms will provide personalized, self-paced instruction, giving children a quicker and more efficient educational experience.
  2. Everyday Life: AI will be a fixture in our homes, controlling things like temperature, appliances, and even vacuuming. AI-powered devices will also make their way into healthcare, ensuring that our children receive personalized, continuous health monitoring.

But what if AI leaps far beyond what we know today, leading to AGI or ASI?

The age of AGI or ASI

Suppose that AGI (AI operating on par with human intelligence) or even ASI (AI performing above human intelligence) emerges during Generation Beta's lifetimes. This scenario opens up a world of possibilities, but it also introduces uncertainties and concerns.

  1. Professional World: AI could drastically change the nature of work, automating routines and creating new opportunities for human-AI collaboration. This will inevitably impact employment, with future generations having to adapt to new, AI-based career paths.
  2. Social Consequences: With AI as a potential mental health advisor, we could witness a generation that has an over-reliance on AI-dispensed mental health guidance, introducing new challenges for mental health support and raising critical questions about privacy and ethics.

Preparing the groundwork

As we march towards a future that integrates AI more deeply in daily life, intelligent decisions must be made to prepare our children, including Generation Beta.

Parents, educators, and policymakers should prioritize understanding the potential impacts of AI and be open to collaborative, responsible AI development that both harnesses its power and mitigates its risks.

Although we cannot fully predict the future, one thing remains certain: Generation Beta will grow up in a world where AI shapes their experiences, impacts their choices, and challenges their values. Let's join hands in nurturing this new generation, working together to create a future that celebrates the incredible potential of AI while ensuring it remains a force for good.

  1. The rise of Generation Beta also coincides with potential advancements in artificial general intelligence (AGI) and artificial superintelligence (ASI), positions that generative AI currently holds as a major contributor.
  2. Large language models like LLM and OpenAI's ChatGPT, GPT-4, O1, and O3 Pro Plus, are examples of generative AI that Alpha baby boomers may be exposed to, shaping their understanding and relationship with AI from an early age.
  3. As Alpha baby boomers, also known as Generation Beta, become AI natives, they will likely rely heavily on AI for their future predictions, relying on AGI or ASI for tasks ranging from education and work to entertainment and personal health.
  4. Both Generation Alpha and Generation Beta, born out of the digital and AI eras, will face unique challenges related to AI, including balancing their reliance on AI with maintaining human connections and developing critical thinking skills to navigate the potential risks and benefits of AGI or ASI.
