The Toyopet Racer, a historic Toyota racing car from the 1950s, has made a comeback in a recent revival project. The project, which began on November 19, 2020, was a meticulous endeavour to bring back Toyota's first racing car, over 70 years old.

The project was divided into five teams, each responsible for a different section of the car. The engine team, for instance, worked tirelessly to restore the S-type engine, completing their efforts three months before the shakedown with an ignition test.

The initial test run, or "shakedown," of the Toyopet Racer took place on October 12, 2021. Despite ongoing minor troubles, team members continued to work on improving and fine-tuning the machine. The project leaders set their goal for the vehicle's top speed at 100 km/h.

The team responsible for the body and frame used Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) analysis to ensure the car's safety. Seat belts were installed on the racer to ensure safety, with parts being made detachable to maintain the original look.

The debate among team members and advisors was split between those who wanted to aim for 100 km/h and those who did not. Safety concerns were raised, with suggestions to limit the top speed to around 40 km/h. However, the team pushed forward, determined to verify the strength and reliability of each component before assembly and test-driving the racer.

During the shakedown, the Toyopet Racer successfully reached the 100 km/h mark. Daichi Sugimoto, a member of the E/E Architecture Development Division, became the test driver. The achievement was a testament to the team's hard work and dedication.

Despite extensive research, the maximum speed during the Toyopet Racer's original run remains unverified from the current search results. However, one of the surviving records noted the car reaching a top speed of 150 km/h in the past, offering a glimpse into the car's potential.

The Toyopet Racer revival project is a significant milestone in Toyota's racing history. The project not only brought back a piece of automotive heritage but also demonstrated the passion and skill of the team involved. As the car continues to be tested and fine-tuned, we look forward to seeing what the future holds for this iconic racing machine.

  1. The revival project has sparked excitement among car enthusiasts, who anticipate a possible integration of modern technology, such as gadgets and lifestyle modifications, to enhance the Toyopet Racer's performance.
  2. Embracing the spirit of innovation, the team has shown keen interest in incorporating advancements in lifestyle technology, like gadgets, to improve safety features, such as diagnostic systems, in the Toyopet Racer.
