Toyota Exhibits New Multidisciplinary RAV4 Sport Utility Vehicle
TOYOTA INTRODUCES NEW GENERATION RAV4 WITH EXTENDED ELECTRIC RANGE AND IMPROVED CHARGING CAPABILITIES
Toyota has unveiled the latest iteration of its popular compact SUV, the RAV4. The new model introduces evolutionary advancements, a fresh design, and an array of technology features.
In the past, Toyota's emphasis on functionality and reliability often earned it the label of manufacturing dull vehicles. However, the former Toyota CEO, Akio Toyoda, challenged this notion with the commitment to never build boring cars again. The RAV4, placed between compact and mid-size classes, has traditionally been designed to blend unobtrusively with minimal excitement, a characteristic its target audience appreciates.
The exterior of the new RAV4 boasts a modernized appearance without sacrificing its functional nature. The front now features a more modern and slightly aggressive design, while the headlight layout is reminiscent of Toyota's popular C-HR model. The side sill, which cascades from the C-pillar to the wheel arch, imparts a more muscular look to the vehicle.
Angular wheel arches, distinctive in the predecessor, carry over into the interior design. The instrument cluster, steering wheel, and switches all adopt the angular architecture. Physical pressure buttons, a central part of the RAV4's operating concept, remain in this conservative design. However, digital natives are catered to with an extensive array of monitors totaling over 25 inches, including a touchscreen and an improved, three-dimensional image from the 360-degree camera.
TOYOTA EMBRACES HYBRID POWERTRAIN
In terms of powertrain, the new RAV4 offers several hybrid options, as one would expect from Toyota. The most exciting variant is the plug-in hybrid, which boasts an estimated electric-only range of around 100 kilometers, thanks to a larger 23 kWh capacity lithium-ion battery.
The RAV4's charging capabilities have also been improved. It now supports 50 kW DC fast charging via a CCS connection, allowing the battery to charge from 10% to 80% in just 30 minutes. Additionally, the electric unit's power output has increased from 22 to 204 PS, ensuring smooth driving in electric-only mode. The total system output is 304 PS, enabling the all-wheel-drive vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.8 seconds.
GR SPORT OFFERS A MORE DYNAMIC DRIVE
For those seeking a more energetic driving experience, Toyota is introducing the GR Sport trim. This version features hardware upgrades, including modified dampers, a reinforced strut in the rear suspension, and specific suspension tuning, aiming to provide a distinctively different driving character.
The GR Sport also receives cosmetic enhancements, such as black 20-inch Alura wheels and a mesh grille, lending the RAV4 a sportier appearance. Additional driver-assistance features, including smartphone parking and lane change assist, round out the list of new features.
The new RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) is set to arrive in spring 2026. Its improved electric-only driving range and enhanced charging capabilities make it a competitive option in the plug-in hybrid SUV segment.
