Trump Celebrates TikTok Agreement; Amazon Broadens Ad Tie-up with SiriusXM; UK and US Finalize $42bn Tech Partnership

In a series of significant announcements, major tech companies and world leaders have unveiled new collaborations and expansions.

President Trump has stated that a group of very big companies are interested in purchasing TikTok, the popular social media app. If the deal is finalized, ByteDance's US assets would be transferred to new American owners, led by Oracle, Silver Lake, and Andreessen Horowitz. This consortium is expected to take about 80% ownership, with ByteDance retaining around 20%. The new owners will have a key role in data and privacy control, and the TikTok US board will mainly consist of American members to ensure US majority control and oversight of TikTok's algorithm.

Meanwhile, President Trump also announced a deal with China to keep TikTok running in the US, though details remain unsettled. Under the reported terms, Beijing may still maintain control over TikTok's algorithm, even if US ownership changes.

Across the Atlantic, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has hailed a new tech pact between the UK and the US as having the potential to influence the lives of millions in both countries and deliver growth and security. The £31bn deal, named "Tech Prosperity Deal", comes as Trump visits the UK. The pact aims to drive economic growth, strengthen energy security, and expand scientific research.

Google has committed £5bn investment as part of the pact, while Microsoft has pledged £22bn to expand cloud and AI infrastructure. Nvidia will deploy 120,000 graphics processing units as part of the agreement.

On a separate note, Amazon has expanded its programmatic integration with SiriusXM. The update introduces programmatic guaranteed deals and allows users to transact via private marketplaces, giving advertisers more ways to buy audio inventory through Amazon's DSP.

These developments underscore the ongoing dynamic and interconnected nature of the global tech industry, with partnerships and investments shaping the digital landscape across continents.
