Apple Announces $100 Billion Expansion of American Manufacturing Program

Apple has unveiled an ambitious plan to invest an additional $100 billion in domestic manufacturing, bringing its cumulative commitment to $600 billion over the next four years. The American Manufacturing Program (AMP), announced in August 2025, aims to deepen advanced manufacturing within the United States and establish a vertically integrated silicon supply chain.

The AMP is a strategic, large-scale effort to partner with industry leaders such as Corning Inc., Applied Materials Inc., and Texas Instruments Inc. The program focuses heavily on smartphone glass, semiconductor production, and supply chain localization, with a strong innovation component.

Corning Inc. will dedicate an entire factory in Kentucky to Apple glass production, increasing its workforce in the state by 50%. This facility will produce 100% of the cover glass for iPhone and Apple Watch sold worldwide. Apple and Corning are also establishing an Apple-Corning Innovation Center in Kentucky, focused on advanced material development and next-generation manufacturing technologies.

Applied Materials Inc. and Texas Instruments Inc., key partners in the AMP ecosystem, will support the expansion of semiconductor manufacturing in the U.S. Their roles in silicon production and semiconductor equipment manufacturing are crucial to Apple’s goal of an end-to-end domestic silicon supply chain capable of producing over 19 billion chips in 2025.

The AMP also includes efforts to build a comprehensive U.S.-based silicon supply chain, from raw materials to chip fabrication and packaging, involving partners such as GlobalWafers America and GlobalFoundries. This supports Apple’s production of advanced chips used in its products.

In addition, Apple has signed a multiyear deal with MP Materials for American-made rare earth magnets and will collaborate to establish a rare earth recycling line in California. This initiative contributes to supply chain sustainability and performance improvements.

The AMP is part of Apple’s efforts to assemble additional critical components domestically. While the majority of iPhones sold in the U.S. come from India, MacBooks, iPads, and Apple Watches are primarily manufactured in Vietnam. Onshoring would be a massive undertaking due to heavily customized processes in China and India.

Apple CEO Tim Cook has expressed a desire to increase domestic manufacturing, particularly for iPhones. The company had previously announced plans to spend $500 billion in the U.S. over the next four years. Trump has been successful in exempting Apple's products from import taxes in the past, and the president has made securing investments a key part of negotiating with other countries on geopolitical issues, such as trade.

Over four years, Apple plans to directly employ 20,000 people in the U.S. in areas including research, development, silicon engineering, AI, machine learning, and software. The AMP and related investments will support and expand more than 450,000 supplier and partner jobs nationwide.

This news comes as the president has announced a $100 billion investment in artificial intelligence data centers from Oracle Corp., SoftBank Group Corp., and OpenAI Inc., with a goal of increasing the total to at least $500 billion. Nvidia Corp., the dominant player in chips for AI models, plans to produce as much as half a trillion dollars' worth of AI infrastructure in the U.S. over the next four years through manufacturing partnerships. Trump is also planning to unveil levies on all products containing semiconductor chips as soon as next week. Apple CEO Tim Cook is expected to attend a White House event.
