UK's Shinfield Studios receives £250m (US$344m) financing from Apollo, secured by Shadowbox Studios for expansion

In a significant move for the UK's film and television industry, Apollo Global Management has invested £250 million (US$344 million) in Shinfield Studios, one of the largest studio complexes in the country. This investment will bolster the operational finances of Shinfield Studios, making it a more appealing choice for streamers, studios, and UK independents seeking competitive, modern production facilities.

Thuong Luong, Shadowbox Studios' EVP of real estate investments and acquisitions, praised Apollo's "breadth of experience across real estate, media, and entertainment," deeming them an ideal partner. This investment will enable Shinfield Studios to operate at full capacity, boasting 18 soundstages, workshops, contemporary offices, and over 11 acres of backlot.

The financing further validates the importance of purpose-built facilities within the global production landscape. High-profile productions such as Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire and Disney+'s The Acolyte have already been filmed at Shinfield Studios, underscoring its appeal for major international productions.

The Media & Entertainment supply-chain stands to benefit significantly from this investment, with the impact concentrated in the Physical Production segment. This includes soundstage rentals, set construction, VFX, and local crew hiring, but also extends downstream into Post-production and Distribution as content pipelines recover.

Shadowbox Studios, owned by affiliates of Commonwealth Asset Management and Silver Lake, also operates major facilities in Atlanta and Australia, in addition to Shinfield Studios in the UK. Despite recent commissioning slowdowns in the HETV market, Apollo Global Management funds have invested in a "strong and growing list" of quality productions at Shadowbox Studios.
