Uncensored municipal wireless network expansion in Heusenstamm
Heusenstamm and Rembrücken, two charming municipalities in the district of Offenbach, are set to enhance their digital connectivity with the implementation of the "Public Wi-Fi for Heusenstamm" project. This initiative, financially supported by the state program "Digital Village Lime", aims to establish a total of 40 hotspots at 18 locations across the two municipalities by the end of the project.
The project, which was decided upon by the city council in September 2023, has already seen some active access points being set up. These include locations such as the castle town hall, the gate building, the old lime tree, the swimming pool, the bus station, and the cultural and sports center Martinsee. Other locations, such as the Frankfurter Straße, the train station, or the fire station Heusenstamm, are currently in preparation.
The digital access points, protected by various filter mechanisms, ensure a safe and secure browsing experience. Users remain invisible to each other at these hotspots, and content with youth-endangering or questionable content is blocked. The network name for these hotspots is "Hessen WLAN".
For those interested in staying updated with all the news from the city and district of Offenbach, there's an option to subscribe to a free newsletter available on the city's website, heusenstamm.de. An interactive WLAN map on the same website provides an overview of all active and planned hotspots.
The employees of the public works department are responsible for the technical implementation of these hotspots, while the project coordination is handled by the municipal IT department and the digitalization department.
Mayor Steffen Ball has emphasised that digital participation is a strategic goal for the city, making this project an important part of the city's digital strategy. It's worth noting that the newsletter subscriptions are not spam, as stated in the privacy policy.
As the project progresses, residents and visitors of Heusenstamm and Rembrücken can look forward to improved digital connectivity, making their online experiences more convenient and efficient.
