Unexpected Offer Extended to Volkwagen Employees Sparks Reactions Among Workers
In a groundbreaking initiative, the Volkswagen Group has expanded its bike leasing offer to various departments and subsidiaries within the company. This unique programme, a collaboration between Volkswagen, Volkswagen Financial Services, and "Lease a Bike", was first introduced in 2023 and has proven to be a successful venture, having been in operation for two years.
The bike leasing offer is open to all employees, including those on the collective agreement, collective agreement plus, and management. Apprentices and dual students can also lease a maximum of two bicycles. The usual leasing period is three years, and employees can lease up to four bicycles through their employer, with the installments deducted from their gross salary.
Most of the leased bicycles are e-bikes, with over 80% being e-bikes. This shift towards eco-friendly transportation options is a clear reflection of the company's commitment to environmental sustainability.
The bike leasing offer began as a pilot project at the Audi subsidiary in 2023. Since then, it has been expanded within the group and has now been joined by Traton and Ducati. Christian Wölbern, CEO of "Lease a Bike" Germany, plans to further intensify the cooperation with Volkswagen AG, aiming to supply more company departments at Volkswagen with company bicycles.
However, specific details about the expansion plan for the bike leasing offer or which departments will receive more company bicycles are not currently available. Nonetheless, the initiative's success and continued growth indicate a strong commitment from the Volkswagen Group to promote sustainable transportation and employee wellbeing.
Employees at Volkswagen Group, irrespective of their position or agreement type, can also lease smart-home-devices as an added benefit, making their living space more technologically advanced. Moreover, in line with their eco-friendly initiatives, the group is considering offering gadgets like energy-efficient light bulbs, solar-powered chargers, and smart thermostats as part of this programme.
