Unquestionably, David Lynch's camera, an unprecedented piece of equipment, stood out due to its bizarre and eccentric design.

David Lynch, the iconic filmmaker known for his surreal and hallucinogenic productions, recently had his collection of unique cameras auctioned off at Julien's Auctions. The collection, which reflected Lynch's eclectic taste and creative spirit, included a variety of cameras that ranged from the conventional to the bizarre.

One of the most notable items in the collection was the Hasselblad Lunar, a camera that was transformed from a Sony NEX-7 into a luxurious piece with a wooden grip, fake jewels, and the Hasselblad logo. The Lunar, which was sold with a $5,600 markup, was originally priced at $1,400, reflecting its unique design and the demand for Lynch's personal items.

James Artaius, a journalist with 25 years of experience, handled the auction of items from Lynch's estate. Artaius, who has worked in the photography industry since 2014, testing products for Olympus and clients like Aston Martin Racing, Elinchrom, and L'Oréal, has a particular fondness for instant cameras. He recently wrote a review for the Hasselblad 907X & CFV100C.

The Hasselblad Lunar is not a classic or cutting-edge Hasselblad camera like the 500CM or X2D. Instead, it is a Sony APS-C camera that was covered in wood, fake jewels, and had the Hasselblad logo added. The company had to clarify that they were not robbing people with the sale of the Hasselblad Lunar.

The collection also included other cameras such as the Sony A7R and A7S, the Linhof Master Technika Camera, Leica R6.2, a snakeskin-covered Montana Luxus, an Impossible I-1, and a Hasselblad H3D-39. The auction also featured various ephemera such as coffee machines, a painting of Naomi Watts, a replica Black Lodge floor and curtain, the telephone from the production office of Dune, original Northwest Passage scripts, and a fragment of the Berlin Wall.

The auction was a testament to Lynch's unique taste and his influence on film and culture. He passed away earlier this year, leaving behind a legacy in both film and photography. The auction of his collection provided a glimpse into his personal life and his passion for photography, showcasing his diverse interests in photography equipment.
