CTS Eventim's Fansale Platform Tackles Ticket Scalping
In an effort to combat the prevalent issue of ticket scalping, CTS Eventim's Fansale platform has implemented several measures to protect fans and promote fair ticket sales.
The Fansale platform, which has been operational since 2007, often uses personalized tickets linked to the buyer’s identity. This personalization, a common anti-scalping measure, limits the transferability and resale of tickets, making it harder for scalpers to operate.
Events with high demand, such as concerts in large venues like Munich's Olympiahalle, are particularly susceptible to scalping. However, platforms like Fansale aim to address this issue by implementing controlled resale within the official system. This allows genuine fans to resell tickets while blocking unauthorized resellers.
Klaus-Peter Schulenberg, CEO of Eventim, has emphasized the need to combat the abuse and fraud that has occurred on unauthorized secondary market platforms in the past. He also noted that Fansale operates at cost, providing a fair and affordable platform for ticket resales.
Despite these measures, the extent of ticket scalping on Fansale remains unknown. Last year, there was a low double-digit number of unauthorized resales on the platform, which were reversed. It's worth mentioning that Eventim temporarily suspended the resale of Taylor Swift tickets last year due to a hacker attack.
Eventim, the world's second-largest ticket provider, operates a variety of events, including concerts, theater performances, and sporting events. The company also owns and operates venues such as the Waldbühne in Berlin. Event promoters can also prohibit commercial resale of tickets, providing another layer of protection against scalping.
It's important to note that ticket scalping, or the private resale of tickets, is allowed in Germany. However, scalpers often use software to obtain tickets in large numbers and attempt to resell them at high prices on unauthorized secondary markets. CTS Eventim has reported millions of bot requests during major onsales, indicating the widespread use of such practices.
Despite these challenges, Eventim is capable of preventing such ticket purchases made by bots. The company, which is listed on the stock exchange, continues to strive for fair and accessible ticket sales for all fans.
- To ensure fair play in the resale of tickets, especially for high-demand events like concerts at Munich's Olympiahalle, the Fansale platform, operated by CTS Eventim, uses technology like personalized tickets linked to the buyer’s identity, limiting the resale potential for cybersecurity breaches by scalpers.
- In an effort to provide a safe and affordable platform for entertainment (radio, cybersecurity, technology, sports), Eventim, the world's second-largest ticket provider, implements measures such as controlled resale within official systems and prohibiting commercial resale of tickets, thereby addressing concerns about unfair ticket scalping.
