Regrettably, time travel isn't an option, but happily, you can erase an unpleasant term before it's noticed by others.

Upcoming Feature for Android Users: Options to Revise and Recall Sent Text Messages

Sometimes, we regret sending a message. Maybe we misspoke, or maybe we just hit send too soon. In interpersonal relationships, these mistakes can cause quite a ruckus. That's where RCS, the messaging protocol, comes in. While it can't actually send you back in time, it's offering some relief for those of us using Android and iOS devices.

Recently, 9to5Google discovered that Google Messages is planning to support editing or deleting messages for all parties involved in a conversation. This means that if you've sent a message you wish you hadn't, you can delete it for everyone, not just yourself. And believe it or not, Apple is on board with this, thanks to the RCS integration in iOS 18.

According to 9to5Google, Google Messages has been updating some beta code to comply with the Universal Profile 2.7, introduced last summer by the GSMA. This update enables features like "Delete for me" and "Delete for everyone." It also helps replies and reactions work seamlessly between devices. Currently, when an Android user replies to an iOS user, the thread gets a bit messy on the iOS side with extra text explaining what's going on. But the new update will streamline this, ensuring both sides have a similar visual feedback experience.

As for the Apple side of things, they'll just need to push out a software update to get in on the action. Whether they're willing to do that remains to be seen. But let's not get ahead of ourselves. Google hasn't confirmed whether these features are actually coming to Android yet.

So, while we can't turn back time, RCS is giving us a little bit of control over our messaging mistakes. And that's got to be a good thing, right? Just remember, you can't edit the past, only the future messages you send. So, be mindful and hit send with caution.

The introduction of editing or deleting messages for all parties in a conversation by Google Messages, driven by RCS integration, signifies a promising future in technology-driven messaging. With this tech feature, users can rectify sent messages that they regret, providing a level of control unseen before.
