Update rectifies major Xbox issue in New Black Myth: Wukong release - potential for me to explore one of last year's most acclaimed games on Xbox console
Black Myth: Wukong, the highly-anticipated action RPG game, made its debut on Xbox Series X|S on August 20, 2022. The Chinese-developed title had already amassed millions of players across PC and PS5 when it launched in August 2024.
However, the Xbox version of the game faced a delay due to optimization concerns, as stated by the game developers, Game Science, in June 2024. Reports from IGN and Forbes later suggested that this delay was due to a temporary PS5 exclusivity deal with Sony.
Upon its release, the Xbox version of Black Myth: Wukong was met with a severe lighting bug that caused visual problems. Game Science quickly addressed this issue through their patch 1.0.20.21518, released in September 2025, which also resolved the blurry visual issue on Xbox Series X.
The new update for Black Myth: Wukong also took care of a few prominent crashes and errors, resolved progress-blocking issues with side quests, and addressed a bug that caused slow responses to controller inputs in the Text Language selection dropdown.
Black Myth: Wukong on Xbox Series X now boasts 45 more achievements than the PS5 version. The game has a "Very Positive" rating on Steam with 94% of its reviews granting it an approving thumbs up. It also achieved a "Generally Favorable" score of 81/100 on Metacritic.
Despite some shortcomings, Black Myth: Wukong is still worth a pickup, especially if it's on sale. At the moment, the console versions of the game aren't discounted, but the PC edition can be purchased for $47.19 at Loaded (formerly CDKeys).
Meanwhile, Game Science has also fixed a glitch that caused some bosses in the Mount Huaguo area to bizarrely shrink into the ground. They also addressed the issue of global illumination ghosting in Quality and Balance modes, which was causing blurry graphics on Xbox Series X.
As for the future, Game Science has announced the upcoming release of Black Myth: Zhong Kui, a follow-up to the successful title. Microsoft, for their part, has remained silent on any potential deals with other platform holders, stating that they cannot comment on the deals made by their partners.
In conclusion, Black Myth: Wukong has overcome its initial challenges on Xbox Series X|S, providing players with an immersive action RPG experience. With the promise of future titles and updates, fans of the genre can look forward to more exciting adventures.
