Vietnam's Quang Tri to Welcome Two Major Power Plants by 2035
Quang Tri province is set to welcome two major power plants, addressing northern Vietnam's power needs. The Quang Tri Thermal Power Plant, with an investment of over VND55 trillion ($2.08 billion), targets a 2027 groundbreaking. Meanwhile, the Quang Trach III LNG power plant, planned for Phu Trach commune, aims to operate between 2031 and 2035.
EVN has proposed these projects to ease power shortages. The Quang Tri Thermal Power Plant, originally approved in 2013, was reassigned to EVNGENCO 1 due to shareholder changes. It will now be managed by PetroVietnam Power Corporation (PV Power). The plant's conversion from coal to LNG aims to reduce emissions and protect the environment. The first turbine is expected to start generating power in late 2028, with full completion in 2030.
The Quang Trach III LNG power plant, with a capacity of 1,500 MW, is planned to start operations between 2031 and 2035. Both plants aim to supply power to northern Vietnam and help meet its growing energy demands.
These projects, with a combined capacity of over 2,800 MW, are expected to significantly boost Vietnam's power generation capacity. They are part of the country's efforts to ensure stable and clean energy supplies for its growing economy.
