Volkswagen's ID3 battery shows remarkable durability, with over 90% functional capacity, according to ADAC's extensive 160,000-kilometer endurance trial.
The Volkswagen ID.3 has proven its durability and reliability as an electric vehicle option, according to recent test results from the German Automobile Club (ADAC). After covering more than 160,000 kilometres (approximately 99,400 miles) over four years, the ID.3 Pro S with a 77 kWh net energy battery maintains about 91% of its original net capacity.
During the rigorous endurance test, the battery showed no signs of critical degradation or maintenance issues. The battery capacity declined slowly and steadily over the test: around 96% retained at 59,000 km, 95% at 69,000 km, 94% at 84,000 km, 93% at 102,000 km, and finally 91% by 145,000 km and sustained beyond 160,000 km.
The ID.3 also received several software updates during the test period, which improved charging performance. One notable update was the Electric Vehicle Route Planner, which plans charging stops on a longer route, taking into account the current traffic situation and forecasts, in addition to the charge level.
The battery's robust longevity was further underlined by the minimal reduction in usable driving range. In another similar test, only about 8 miles were lost over the equivalent of 107,000 miles.
Martin Sander, a member of the Volkswagen Board of Management, stated that the high battery capacity of over 90 per cent after 160,000 kilometres confirms the impressive quality of ID. models. Volkswagen guarantees that the battery of the ID.3 will still have at least 70 per cent of its original net capacity after eight years of operation or 160,000 kilometres of driving.
The ID.3's body, chassis, axles, suspension, and steering all coped well with the vehicle weight and did not show any significant issues or problems. The high mileage, including over 40% of charging done via rapid chargers and frequent 100% state-of-charge holds, typically considered stressful for batteries, did not negatively impact the vehicle's performance.
The ADAC testers have given the ID.3 an excellent report after four years of endurance testing. The engineers at the Bavarian Test and Technology Centre repeatedly checked the vehicle, particularly with regard to its battery condition, between the test drives. This was the first endurance test of its kind for an ID. family vehicle.

- The impressive battery capacity retention of over 90% in the Volkswagen ID.3, as shown in the ADAC Endurance Test Results, is a noteworthy achievement in the automotive industry, especially considering the vehicle's use of finance for rapid charging and the stresses placed on the battery during high mileage.
- As technology continues to advance in the transportation sector, the robust longevity of ID.3's battery, demonstrated by maintaining 91% of its original capacity after 160,000 kilometres, provides a compelling financial case for electric vehicle adoption within the industry.
