Wallenius Wilhelmsen Orders 4 More Next-Gen Vessels for Net-Zero Emissions by 2027

Wallenius Wilhelmsen has secured its future with a renewed shipping agreement, ordering four more next-generation vessels to support its net-zero emissions goal by 2027. The company reported a strong first quarter, boosted by contract renewals, as customers seek integrated solutions amidst capacity constraints.

The new vessels, each with a capacity of 9,300 CEUs, are among the world's largest pure car and truck carriers (PCTCs). They are designed to be methanol-capable and ammonia-ready, ensuring they can be converted for net-zero emissions once safe ammonia is available. These vessels will play a crucial role in Wallenius Wilhelmsen's ambition to introduce a net-zero emissions service by 2027.

The renewed agreement is based on multiple scheduled trade routes with an established long-term customer. This secures ocean capacity for the customer's market ambitions and supports Wallenius Wilhelmsen's increased demand for logistics and integrated services. The company sees growing support for emission reduction ambitions from its customers.

With a substantial portion of its contracts due for renewal in 2024, Wallenius Wilhelmsen's proactive approach ensures capacity and supports its net-zero emissions goal. The recent order of four more next-generation Shaper class PCTC vessels brings the total to 12, further solidifying the company's commitment to sustainable shipping.
