Warehouse Prioritization Report Highlights: 93% Focus on Throughput for Optimal Return on Investment (ROI) in Swisslog Survey Results

In a recent survey of over 300 global executives with supply chain responsibility, improving throughput has emerged as a top priority for 93% of supply chain leaders in 2025. According to the "State of Warehouse Management and Fulfillment 2025" report, analyzed by Swisslog, nearly all surveyed (97%) have implemented some form of automation in their warehouses, with nearly half (48%) reporting being less than 50% automated, indicating significant room for growth.

Rami Younes, General Manager at Swisslog Middle East, comments, "Businesses that want to stay competitive must also focus on software that enhances performance and integrates seamlessly across technologies." Advanced automation control software, such as Swisslog's SynQ platform, can drive improvements in warehouse metrics, potentially increasing bin retrieval speeds by up to 20%.

The findings of the report underscore the growing urgency for businesses to optimize automation and software capabilities. This is particularly relevant in the Middle East, where the e-commerce sector is projected to reach US$50 billion by 2025, increasing the pressure to improve throughput, maximize density, optimize order fulfillment, and adapt to demand spikes. The Middle East logistics market is expected to double this year since 2020.

As automation levels increase, seamless software integration across multiple systems is vital to prevent operational complexity and ensure data-driven performance improvements. Swisslog's SynQ platform provides a single, unified software solution to manage and optimize automation assets, addressing the risks of fragmented automation systems.

The report also highlights key trends in warehouse automation and software optimization for 2025. These include the rise of smart warehouses, the expansion of Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs) and Collaborative Robots (Cobots), the use of Artificial Intelligence in WMS, physical automation and micro-fulfillment centers, data-driven automation, workforce augmentation over replacement, hyperautomation, and end-to-end automation.

Operational priorities for 2025 centre on implementing integrated digital platforms, accelerating automation adoption, leveraging AI-powered analytics and forecasting, developing a flexible, hybrid workforce, establishing localized micro-fulfillment hubs, and building resilient and adaptable supply networks.

Flexibility in automation software is important, enabling businesses to adapt to evolving customer demands, streamline omnichannel fulfillment, and maximize both throughput and storage density. The report warns of the risks of fragmented automation systems, which can lead to inefficiencies and limit the value of operational data.
