Apple TV+ and Prime Video to Release New Series and Biographical Drama

In the upcoming science fiction comedy series "Murderbot" on Apple TV+, Alexander Skarsgard portrays a conscious machine with its own will. Originally programmed to obey humans, ensure their safety, and kill if necessary, the cyborg has reprogrammed itself. Instead of pursuing dangerous assignments and lethal actions, it prefers peaceful activities, such as watching series and observing its charges, whom it deems incompetent and irritating. Titled as idiots, the machine comments wittily on human behavior.

The ten episodes are derived from Martha Wells' "The Murderbot Diaries" book series. Each episode will be released weekly on Fridays, beginning May 16, 2025, with the season finale scheduled for July 11, 2025. The series is a significant adaptation of the popular sci-fi action comedy book series, exclusively available on Apple TV+.

Another notable release is the biographical drama "The Photographer," now available on Prime Video. Based on the life of American war correspondent Lee Miller, the film tells her story in her perspective, illuminating the horrors and senselessness of war. The film features Kate Winslet, Alexander Skarsgard, Marion Cotillard, and Andy Samberg in lead roles.

In commemoration of German filmmaker Rainer Werner Fassbinder's 80th birthday, Arte showcases two of his most important films and a documentary focused on actress Hanna Schygulla in its media library. "Lili Marleen" is Fassbinder's most elaborate cinema production, considered an epic love story in the shadow of National Socialism. "The Marriage of Maria Braun" is a sharp analysis of the post-war period and the economic miracle. "Hanna Schygulla" is a personal portrait of one of Fassbinder's favorite actresses, available from May 28th in the Arte media library.

The two-hour historical drama "Freud - Beyond Belief" is available on MagentaTV. The film depicts a fictional meeting between Sigmund Freud (Anthony Hopkins) and Irish literary scholar and writer C.S. Lewis (Matthew Goode) in London, September 1939, just as World War II commenced. This dramatic encounter centers around love, faith, the future of humanity, and the question of whether God exists. The film is based on a play and is exclusive to MagentaTV.
