Xpeng introduces the G7 model for under $41,700, securing 10,000 orders within a mere 9 minutes.
In the rapidly evolving world of electric vehicles (EVs), Chinese automaker Xpeng has made a significant stride with its latest offering, the G7 SUV. This AI-smart family vehicle, set to be one of Xpeng's top sellers for the year, is making waves in Australia and is expected to expand to international markets soon.
Leading the charge in Australia is Riz Akhtar, the founder of carloop, a Melbourne-based company specialising in Australian EV data, insight reports, and trends. Akhtar, a mechanical engineer with a background in transport infrastructure, is no stranger to innovation.
Locally in Australia, Xpeng officially launched the G6 SUV last December, and since then, hundreds have been delivered. The new G7, however, promises to outshine its predecessor with several notable improvements.
One of the key differences between the G6 and the G7 is the roof design. The G7 doesn't slope as much, providing greater rear passenger headspace. The rear of the new G7 features a full-width light bar with curved tail lights, similar to the 2025 Xpeng G6.
Under the hood, the G7 is powered by a rear-mounted single motor producing 218 kW of power, making it slightly more powerful than the current G6. The new G7 also comes with two Lithium-Iron-Phosphate (LFP) battery packs, with pack sizes of 68.5 kWh to 81 kWh. This shift from the NMC battery pack used in the G6's Long Range version is expected to deliver between 577 km and 702 km on the CLTC cycle.
The G7 is equipped with a high-tech heads-up display, replacing the screen behind the steering wheel, and features repeater cameras for autonomous and smart driving located on the sides. It also boasts future-proof design for Level 3 (L3) semi-autonomous driving capabilities, thanks to Xpeng's in-house developed seven-nanometer Turing chips, which provide a processing power of 2,250 trillion operations per second.
Xpeng launched the all-new G7 SUV in China in early July 2025, receiving 10,000 firm orders within 9 minutes of official launch. The pricing in China starts at 195,800 yuan (approximately $27,325 USD) for the 602 km range model, with the top-end G7 Ultra with a 702 km range priced at 225,800 yuan (approximately $31,522 USD). The G7 Max with a 702 km range costs 205,800 yuan (approximately $28,720 USD).
As for international markets, Xpeng typically adjusts pricing and specifications based on local regulations and consumer preferences. However, specific information for international markets, including pricing and specifications tailored for those markets, is not yet available. Xpeng's strategy often involves gradual expansion into new markets, so it is likely that the G7 will be introduced in other countries in the coming months or years, depending on market conditions and regulatory approvals.
The new Xpeng G7 is expected to begin deliveries in the coming weeks. With its combination of hardcore technology, full luxury, and comfort, the G7 is set to redefine the electric vehicle landscape, not just in Australia, but potentially worldwide.
